Benefits
There are many benefits to practicing Ashtanga Yoga, both mentally and physically. Much of our illness today is directly related to unresolved mental-emotional stress that lingers in the unconscious mind and has been left unattended. As each person is a both a physical and psychological entity, many psychosomatic habits can create negative physiological effects within the body, which often manifest as illness or disease.
Part of the yogic process is to release blocked emotional energy; using the breath and the yoga postures as tools to move life back into areas of the body that have been cut off from our conscious awareness. As our awareness grows we learn to let go of the deep rooted patterns of tension and strain in the body and mind, we notice that the body starts to open, becoming more flexible, stronger, and lighter.
Some of the benefits of the practice itself are:
- reduced stress
- strengthening the neuro-musculo-skeletal system
- detoxification of the inner organs
- purification of the liver
- increased circulation
- maximized efficiency in the digestive system
- reduced digestive disorders, such as constipation, IBS, heartburn, acid reflux
- strengthens the heart
- weight loss
- bringing balance and symmetry to the body
- increased feelings of health and wellbeing
- greater sense of clarity and concentration in all areas of life
- increased moments of peace and calm within the mind
